“Expansion of infrastructure networks is a key component of the government’s growth and poverty alleviation agenda” (IMF, Mozambique Rising-Building a New Tomorrow, 2014)
Overview of recent investments
Investments in the infrastructure sector have been sizeable in recent years.
In partnership with the African Development Bank, 800 kilometers of roads and 1,350 kilometers of electric power lines have been recently constructed. It is now straightforward to move freight from South to North and between Provinces.
The Maputo Bay Bridge is the most impressive project.
With its 700-metre suspended platform, it is the longest twin-tower suspension bridge in Africa.
The bridge was inaugurated in November 2018, and built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation.
The performance of the logistics sector is now higher in Mozambique than in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This improvement is mainly due to the construction of new infrastructures and the upgrade of the existing ones.
